Have you ever wondered what makes you grow? Why you shiver when you are cold? or how your body  makes you laugh or cry?

Have you ever marveled at how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly, how a cheetah can run so fast, or how a chameleon changes the color of its body to match the background.

Animals do so such amazing things because they are living beings that can respond to the world around them in different ways. They are able to move, grow, repair themselves and create new life. Some animals, including humans, can also learn and remember.

Most animals function efficiently in their home environment. Their bodies are adapted to the conditions in their habitat, whether they have thick fur for life on a snowy mountainside or gills to breathe water in the deep ocean. Whatever the location, each animal develops and maintains a fine coordination among the different parts of its body in order to survive where it lives.

Many people have spent their lives trying to understand just how the bodies of animals work. This is called Physiology.

Humans are among the most complex of all animals. If you could look inside your own body, you’d see that it is packed full of interconnected parts that fit together efficiently inside your skin. All bodies, yours and those of all other animals, are beautiful, dynamic living organisms.
